Viña Lareira Albariño Sobre Lias
Spring is well and truly in the air and this week’s Hot Bottle is a bright and breezy Albariño from Spain’s north western coastline. Viña Lareira Albariño Sobre Lias 2020 (12.5%) is usually £11.99 at Waitrose but with the offer price, if you purchase any six bottles you’ll be
paying under a tenner.
It’s richer in texture than most Albariño thanks to ageing on the lees for six months which makes the wine feel silky and plush rather than light and spritzy. In flavour, it’s all nectarine, lemon peel, scent and splendour. A bit of a treat that’s lovely with any lemony fish recipes (or even good old fish and chips!), fresh crab dishes, sheep cheese such as Wigmore or Lord of the Hundreds – or just pour it as a cool aperitif with a delicious bowl of green olives.
